Greater Houston Partnership along with Asia Society Texas Center hosted Asian head of State Prime Minister of Singapore to discuss trade ties.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was in Houston e at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Houston to talk about the close global trade ties between the East Asian country and the Houston region during a signature luncheon called ‘ East Asia in the Next Decade.’
Present at the event was the Mayor of Houston Annise Parker, Consul General of India Sanjiv Arora, Jeff Moseley President of the Greater Houston Partnership, Martha Blackwelder Executive Director of Asia Society Texas Center, and many other dignitaries.

Concerned members of the South Asian community gathered pool side to discuss justice for Asian American families at the beautiful home of noted immigration lawyer George Willy on Monday November 9, 2009.
The Asian American Justice Center, based in Washington DC, is one of the organizations in the United States dedicated to protecting the interests of Asian Americans including the South Asian community. AAJC, over the years, has battled prejudices against Asian Americans in the U.S. by lobbying heavily for legislation on hate crimes and other legislation affecting the community.
The purpose for the gathering was to welcome Karen Narasaki, the President and Executive Director of AAJC and to kick-off a campaign in support of AAJC.
George Willy, in an exclusive interview, expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the incident where Bollywood super star Sharukh Khan was detained at Newark airport.

Imran Khan in Houston to discuss Pakistan’s future

Former member of Pakisitan’s parliament Imran Khan spoke about the future of Pakistan at a World Affairs Council of Houston luncheon to an audience of over 300 Houstonians, Khan discussed the current challenges to regional security as well as his plan for economic growth.
Known as an outspoken politician, international philanthropist, and one of the greatest cricket players of all time, Imran Khan is one of the most popular leaders in Pakistan today, according to a recent poll by the International Republican Institute.
Khan was elected to Parliament in Oct 2002, calling for an independent judiciary and full democracy. As chairman of The Tehreek-e-Insaf Party, (Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem Party), he was highly critical of President Musharraf and the ruling elites who dominate Pakistani politics. He is equally critical of the U.S., maintaining that American intervention in Northern Territories has led to many civilian casualties.
Khan and his party led the movement for restoration of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, who had been removed in March of 2007.

Fayyaz Khan, president of the All Indian Qaumi Ekta Committee in Houston hosted a reception for Najma Heptulla and the new Consul General of India in Houston, Sanjeev Arora.
The event was attended by about 30-40 people in an Indian/Pakistani restaurant for a meet and greet.

Friends of Houston businessman/film producer Ashok Rao gathered at his beautiful house on Wednesday evening October 15, 2008. It was an evening with cocktails, gulab jamuns, chicken tikkas but most importantly the idea was to get Indian Americans active in the political scene in Houston while raising funds for Ravi Sandill who seeks to make history in a run for Judge.

Sandill is a candidate for the Harris County 127th Civil District Court. “I want to carry on my commitment to public service and put my professional experience to work, serving the people of Harris County,” says Ravi.
Also present at the event were some Indian Americans who are very active in the political arena such as Randhir Sahni, Jay Iyer, Manisha Mehta, and Sanjay Ram, President of Indo American Political Action Committee.
Rao thanked the crowd for taking out the time and also generously supporting Ravi Sandill.
